A little tenderness for crying out loud!
In this piece, Dave St-Pierre features the emotionally handicapped, men and women who cling like drowning men to the life raft that capsized along with them. Realistic, quotidian movement and outburst are exaggerated and taken out of context, deformed by the gaze of the choreographer and supported by incisive dramatic effects so that a veritable phenomenology of behaviour takes root. This unremitting, uncompromising work turns the moment of performance into an exposed nerve, bringing to its bosom areas of turbulence and frantic hand-to-hand emotional combat, and combining unquenched with ironic disenchantment. UN PEU DE TENDRESSE BORDEL DE MERDE! holds out a mirror that is misted over with tears. Suffering, pathos, disillusion, distress, solitude and the quest for love haunt this indomitable artist. Yet beyond the tension created by the act of dancing and by the ephemeral nature of movement that is bound to die, beyond natural mingling of forces that shape the desperate reality of the language of love, a consciousness of this essential fragility emerges, which Dave is the thread he uses to stitch up the wounds of his broken heart.

In past years Dave St-Pierre has been thought of as the daredevil of Canada’s contemporary dance scene. Disregarding conventional forms and doctrines, he is creating theatre that can shock and make the audience laugh at the same time with its raw sincerity, grotesque humor and heart-wrenching frankness. It reveals and depicts, and like it admits: does not intend to merely hint at what it wants to convey.
“There is no plot, but short etudes made up of movement, dance and text fragments. The director and writer, Dave St-Pierre, who is also the choreographer of the world-renown Cirque du Soleil group, puts his actors through tough but playful tests. They are tried physically of course, but what is even harder is overcoming the pressure posed by these shocking and unconventional situations.” (Gábor Bóta, Magyar Hírlap)
