Ending hope, starting fear

The paper deals with the moment December, 1989, as a rather psycho-emotional than esthetical, ideological, or socio-professional border in the Romanian theatre. Due to its concrete characteristics, the Romanian uprising against the Comunist system brought to the theatre a kind of exaltation which progressively led to despair instead of hope, and to fear instead of determination and courage. That is why contemporary Romanian theatre still resists to and rejects real changes, that is why creativity and involvement are nowadays at their lowest level in the last 30-35 years, despite the strong tradition of theatre as an art and an arm, and despite the huge inner potential of many Romanian artists as well.
