In 2007, in the framework of a “European Capital of Culture” program, the six city theaters in Germany’s Ruhr Valley invited six writers from across Europe to retell Homer’s epic poem Odyssey under the collective title Odyssey Europa. For each participant was assigned a particular episode and theme.

Nádas was asked to focus on the errant Odysseus and the sirens' seductive singing. He chose to work within the framework of the classical genre of the satyr play, and this decision fundamentally shaped his own play.

The Siren's Song is a postmodern Odyssey-adaptation, from which young director András Dömötör created a contemporary revue. Péter Nádas’s play was nominated for The Best Play of the Year by the Society of Hungarian Theatre Dramaturgs.

András Dömötör was born in 1978. In 2003 he got degree as an actor, then in 2007 as a stage director at the University of Theater and Film Department in Budapest. From 2003 he is the member of the Örkény István Theatre. In the 2006/2007 season he puts on stage The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh and wins with it the recognition of the spectators and the professionals. In 2007 he receives the Hungarian Theatre Critics' Association Award for most promising early-stage directing.

Legends speak of sirens who used to seduce men with their songs. What could they have sung that their seductions were always successful? What can a song that can overcome any woman’s seduction be about?

The performance builds upon the original text’s main points in a creative and playful way, all the while not forgetting its humour during the dialogue with the text.
